We are seeking dependable, trustworthy individuals to join our seafood production team. Whether you have prior fish cutting experience or are eager to learn, we are willing to train motivated candidates who take pride in their work and can be trusted with important responsibilities within our operation.
Position Overview
The Fishmonger / Seafood Production Team Member plays a central role in handling, preparing, packaging, and maintaining the quality of all seafood products sold by Scallop Shack Farms. This position is responsible for the full chain of product handling—from pickup and receiving, to filleting and packaging, to preparing retail-ready products for our market and farmers markets.
This is a hands-on, physically active role that requires attention to detail, consistency, and pride in maintaining the highest standards of quality and food safety. The Fishmonger must also be comfortable interacting with customers and supporting retail operations when needed.
No prior fish cutting experience is required—we will train the right individual.
Core Responsibilities
Seafood Pickup & Receiving
Drive company vehicles weekly to pick up and deliver seafood and supplies, including occasional trips to regional partners such as Philadelphia, PA
Receive and inspect all incoming seafood for quality, freshness, accuracy and proper handling
Properly store seafood according to company procedures and food safety standards
Load and unload seafood, coolers, and supplies safely and efficiently
Fish Cutting & Seafood Preparation
Fillet, trim, and portion whole fish according to Scallop Shack Farms quality standards (training provided)
Prepare a variety of species including tuna, swordfish, tilefish, and other wild-caught fish
Break down bulk shellfish (such as clams, oysters, and more) into smaller retail-ready portions
Maintain consistency, cleanliness, and precision in all cutting and preparation
Packaging & Production
Package frozen scallops, shrimp, and other seafood into retail-ready bags for our store and farmers markets
Vacuum seal filleted fish in accordance with our HACCP food safety plan and procedures
Accurately label all products and prepare them for freezer storage and retail sale
Assist in packaging prepared foods such as crab cakes, chowders, and other value-added products
Maintain proper product temperatures during processing and storage
Organize and move products into freezers and storage areas
Retail & Customer Support
Assist customers in-store as needed, answering questions and providing product guidance
Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems to complete customer transactions accurately
Represent Scallop Shack Farms with professionalism and strong customer service
Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment
Quality, Safety & General Operations
Follow all HACCP, sanitation, and food safety procedures
Maintain proper product temperatures and storage conditions at all times
Keep production, storage, and retail areas clean, organized, and sanitary
Assist with general operations as part of a small, highly accountable team
Rotate inventory and maintain proper storage practices
Requirements
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Comfortable operating company vehicles for seafood pickups and deliveries, including occasional trips to Philadelphia, PA
Comfortable interacting with customers and providing professional, friendly service
Ability and willingness to learn and use point-of-sale (POS) systems
Trustworthy, responsible, and capable of handling company vehicles, equipment, and valuable inventory
Strong work ethic and reliability
Willingness to learn and develop fish cutting and seafood handling skills
Ability to work in cold and wet environments
Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly
Attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work
Ability to follow procedures and work safely
Preferred but not required:
Fish cutting, butchery, or seafood handling experience
Food production or commercial kitchen experience
Retail or customer service experience
Experience with vacuum sealing and packaging
Training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and willingness to learn.
